As the leading office in celebrating Cultural Programs in BARMM, the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH-BARMM) under the leadership of Salem Y. Lingasa, Ph.D. recently concluded the 2023 National Arts Celebration with a Culmination Program on February 28 in the Bangsamoro Museum, Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.
Graced by BCPCH Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa, Ph.D., Executive Director Akmad D. Mama, and other Key Personnel, the culmination activity divided into two parts — Virtual Arts Contest and the Basic Photography Learning Session.
VIRTUAL ARTS CONTEST
In line with the theme, “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing” 20 out of 27 entries participated by amateur digital artists were shortlisted and now officially launched and exhibited in the Bangsamoro Museum. The top 20 entries were judged individually using the following given criteria: 30% relevance to the theme, 25% originality, 25% creativity and aesthetic appeal, 15% No. of facebook reactions, and 5% description of the digital poster.
Distinguished judges were Mr. Ricanor I. Uday (Visual Artist and Song Writer), Mr. Lourd Jim C. Diazon (Graphic Artist and Entrepreneur), Mr. Mohammad “Beedz” V. Asi (Mural Artist), together with BCPCH Key Officials Mr. Salem Y. Lingasa, P.h.D. (Chairperson), Mr. Akmad D. Mama (Executive Director), and Mr. Glenn Francis C. Lanticse (Senior Museum Researcher). Winners will be announced this week.
BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY LEARNING SESSION
As part of extending our support to the Bangsamoro artists, a basic photography learning session dubbed as “Cultural Heritage Documentation” with free admission and open to the public. Recognizing skill sets of Bangsamoros, the in-house Resource Speaker is Ms. Raimarie Losaria who was the 2021 National Arts Month Cultural Photography Contest Champion. Said learning session was to encourage the younger generation by becoming Cultural Advocates through promoting Bangsamoro culture by means of more documentation.
Cultural Affairs Section Head, CAO III Ms. Sheryan P. Guialel was very thankful for the success of the activity. It signified that the Bangsamoro Artists have outstanding skills in showcasing the rich cultural heritage and history of the BARMM through their creative talents and artistry.
Promulgated by then President Corazon Aquino in 1991, Presidential Proclamation No. 683 declared February of every year as National Arts Month to celebrate artistic excellence and pay tribute to the uniqueness and diversity of Filipino heritage and culture.
BCPCH is the primary institution in preserving the history, culture, arts, tradition, and rich cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
