Bangsamoro government recognizes Top-Ranked Bangsamoro Representatives in International Qur’an Recitation and Reading Competitions since 1969

To acknowledge the great honor and pride brought by Bangsamoro Qur’an reciters to the
Bangsamoro region, the Bangsamoro Government Office of the Chief Minister
through the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage
(BCPCH-BARMM) headed by Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa, Ph.D. as the implementing
office recently recognizes 65 Bangsamoro Top-Ranked representatives in
international Qur’an Recitation and reading competitions since 1969 who
received cash incentives amounting to a total of 15,900,000.00 this Wednesday,
May 17, 2023 at Alnor Convention Hall, Cotabato City.

Funded by the Bangsamoro Office of the Chief Minister (OCM-BARMM) under its Special Development Fund, the event was made also possible by the Adopted Resolution No 306 authored by Member of Parliament Eddie Alih and approved by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament on January 19, 2023. 

As stated by BTA Speaker Atty. Pangalian M. Balindong represented by Dr. Saga Mabaning by saying that “The importance of reciting the holy Qur’an as a mandate of our Islamic way cannot be over emphasized not only that safeguard us to lead a righteous path in our lives but it reminds us that there is no greater being than the Almighty Allah (S.W.T.) should only be the one deserving of our praises.”

Awarded with plaques of recognition tokens, and cash incentives, the following awardees were carefully selected by a Technical Working Group who organized a validation committee to review the list based on the record of top three winners of competitions held in the following countries: Libya, Bangladesh, Qatar, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Turkey, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Al-Mukarramah, Jordan and Egypt. 

Qur’An Reciter Awardees

Thirty Seven (37) Top Three Qur’An Reciter winners were awarded with cash incentives based on their competition ranking in Male and Female Categories.

10 Awardees for 1st place winners received 300,000.00 cash incentives (6 males and 4 females);

14 Awardees for 2nd place winners received 250,000.00 cash incentives (7 males and 7 females); 13 Awardees for 3rd place winners received 200,000.00 cash incentives (6 males and 7 females)

Qur’an Memorizer Awardees:

Twenty Eight (28) Top Three Qur’An Memorizer winners were awarded with cash incentives based on their competition ranking.

6 Awardees for 1st place winners received 300,000.00 cash incentives;

12 Awardees for 2nd place winners received 250,000.00 cash incentives;

10 Awardees for 3rd place winners received 200,000.00 cash incentives

In his statement, BCPCH Chairperson Lingasa stated that the program is both monumental and historic in the sense that it is the first time the region (BARMM), as well as the whole country, “By giving premium to these Bangsamoro champions, they deserve the utmost recognition as they have brought dignity and honor to the Muslim Ummah in the country particularly in the BARMM region. After all, the pursuit of these fields of endeavor reminds all of us of our collective heritage and identity as Bangsamoro and as Muslim-Filipinos without Islamic heritage as the unifying principle in our pursuit towards self-determination”. 

This was supported by MP Eddie M Alih wherein he reiterated that this occasion will serve as a reminder of the tremendous importance of the holy Qur’an, a source of guidance and enlightenment for billions of Muslims around the world. Through your (awardees) commitment, dedication, and unwavering love for the Qur’an, we are able to celebrate this remarkable accomplishment today.

Minister Amaluzzaman Bin Mohammad Asarani of the Embassy of Malaysia to the Philippines then extended his commendation to all the recipients of the top-ranked Bangsamoro representatives in the international Qur’an competition that these achievements are testaments to their hard work and dedication.

BARMM Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim emphasized in his keynote message that these achievements are indeed word-noting and it is only proper to confirm all the distinction and incentives they (awardees) deserved.

“Allow me to thank all host countries in which Bangsamoro reciters and readers have won their competitions. Your efforts in setting up a platform for our brothers in Islam across the world to compete are now valued to call Bangsamoro and Muslim-Filipino Awardees.” – CM Ebrahim added.

In partnership with the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, the historical event was personally attended and witnessed by several distinguished Officials: Malaysia Embassy Minister Amaluzzaman Bin Mohammad Asarani; BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim together with the following Members of the Parliament MP Eddie Alih, MP Akmad D. Gayak, MP Ebrahim Ali, MP Marjanie Macasalong; National Commission on Muslim Filipinos Official Sawia Punut, MBHTE Madaris Education Director General Tahir Nalg, Darul Ifta Representative Mufti Akmad Mala, BCPCH Commissioner for Sulu Ardan D. Sali and other dignitaries.

BCPCH is the primary institution in preserving the history, culture, arts, traditions, and rich cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
