BCPCH Cultural Advocates partake in 2024 World Hijab Day Celebration

Fifteen (15) Women Cultural Advocates of the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH–BARMM) that is under the leadership of Chairperson and GAD Focal Point System Head Salem Y. Lingasa, Ph.D. participated in the World Hijab Celebration hosted by the Bangsamoro Women Commission (BWC) headed by Chairperson Hadja Bainon G. Karon in partnership with BTA Office of Member of Parliament Diamila D. Ramos that was held on February 1, 2024 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.

With this year’s theme: “Veiled in Strength”, the annually celebrated World Hijab Day aims to bring awareness to women on the significance of wearing hijab, not just among Muslim women. Wearing a hijab remains an essential means of expressing one’s own commitment to religion as a sign of Muslim identity and loyalty to the Almighty. In some cultures, hijab wearing is rooted in culture and tradition and is seen as a symbol of humility and modesty.

Apart from BCPCH-BARMM, it was also attended by Bangsamoro Women from different ministries, offices, and line agencies in their modest dresses paired with fuchsia pink hijabs.

Bangsamoro Government Chief Minister, Ahod Balawag Ibrahim, concluded the celebration by sharing some insights on the relevance of wearing a hijab as a symbol of both religious commitment and identity.

BCPCH, under the leadership of Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa, Ph.D., is the primary institution in preserving the history, culture, arts, tradition, and rich cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
