BCPCH kicks-off "Kadja'An" Grand Cultural Festival in Cotabato City

Together with esteemed Cultural Masters coming from all provinces of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH-BARMM) spearheads the Kadjaan Grand Cultural Festival in celebration of the 2023 National Heritage Month through a kick-off ceremony on Monday, May 29, 2023 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC), Bangsamoro Government Center (BGC), Cotabato City.

In line with the theme” “Preserving the Bangsamoro Heritage through Living Traditions”, this year’s National Heritage Month will be a week-long celebration showcasing the rich and colorful Living Traditions of the Bangsamoro People in the BARMM Region as BCPCH brings you the Bangsamoro skilled artists and artisans from Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi through heritage components in Intangible Cultural Heritage, Native Delicacies, and Handicrafts Making. 

 Emphasizing the mandate of the Commission to revisit and promote our history and culture, BCPCH Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa lid down the efforts of BCPCH in promoting the Bangsamoro culture and its aim to provide a clear cut when it comes to the Islamic perspective.

 This was further highlighted by the statement of BARMM Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim delivered by Senior Minister Abunawas “Von Al Haq” Maslamama wherein he stressed that “While we are bound to enrich our culture, let us adhere to our Islamic faith to maintain the brotherhood in our distinct cultures and identities composing the Bangsamoro tribes. Our cultural differences should not separate us from each other, but rather practice the concept of complementarity by each other’s respective strengths for a united Bangsamoro”.

Attended by various National and BARMM Officials, the Commission would like to extend its gratitude especially to the following: Ms. Elmalyyn Abatayo ( Vice-head, SCCTA-NCCA); Hon Suharto Esmael (Member of Parliament, BTA); Hon. Melanio Ulama (Minister, MIPA); Ms. Sorhayla Latip-Yusoph (Director, MSU Meranaw Cultural Heritage Center) and many more personnel who showed their support in preserving, conserving and promoting the Bangsamoro Cultural Heritage. 

LIVING TRADITION CULTURAL BOOTHS

From the Yakan term “Kadja’an” referring to “festivities”, the Commission is inviting everyone from all walks of life to come and join in the celebration by visiting various booths featuring the skilled cultural masters of the BARMM’s five provinces and learn more about our identity through cultural heritage.

Come and enjoy the following Bangsamoro Heritage components: Cultural Practices, Native Delicacies, and Handicrafts Making that will be featured per day on May 30-June 1, 2023, 8:00-11:00am and 3:00-8:00pm at BCPCH grounds (beside Moro Cafe), Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.

National Heritage Month is observed in the month of May by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 439, which aims to actively foster consciousness, respect, and love for the nation’s culture and history among Filipinos.

BCPCH is the primary institution in preserving the history, culture, arts, traditions, and rich cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
