Museum Management Training for HEIs Year 3

The Bangsamoro Commission on Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH-BARMM) through the Senior Museum Researcher Mr. Glenn Francis C. Lanticse and Museum Guide I Ms. Jawiya B. Tuttuh attended the Museum Management Training for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) Year 3 on July 19-23, 2023, at DBO Training Complex, Baguio City.

Bearing the theme: “Establishment of Virtual Tours for SUCs in the Philippines”, the Museum Management Training Year 3 was implemented by the Museo Kordilyera and the University of the Philippines-Baguio in collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The introduction of digital technology such as 3D virtual museum tours and online museum websites adopted the transition of digitalization and management of museum cultural collections online.

Drawing from digital technology, this online platform could provide an opportunity and new contexts on how the HEIs and LGUs provide and make accessible museum collections and online exhibitions worldwide, at the same time can still provide educational and authoritative content.

The training aimed to provide workshops on creating appropriate content for the museum virtual tour, basic and technical skills in digital curation, and designing a museum website and virtual museum. With a total of fifty participants coming from HEIs and LGUs, the five-day training covered with various topics in parallel sessions:

  • Digitalization of Museum Content for Online Exhibitions
  • Photogrammetry (Polycam)
  • Developing a Museum Website (WordPress)
  • Matterport Camera Training, and
  • 360 Degrees Scanning

Following the training completion, participants are expected to apply what knowledge they have learnt specifically in terms of creating a digital content for museums, producing a virtual museum tour, and enhancing online cultural learning and promoting educational tourism. With this, participants expressed their desire to have an MMT Year 4 in the coming year.

BCPCH is the primary institution in preserving the history, culture, arts, tradition, and rich cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. The Commission is currently under the leadership of Chairperson Salem Y. Lingasa, Ph.D..
